Miner Library supports the study of the history of medicine through an extensive collection of rare books and manuscripts in the fields of medical, dental, and nursing history. The rare book and periodical collections are representative of western medical literature in every period and specialty.
The manuscript collections focus on University of Rochester Medical Center faculty, but we also hold additional resources related to medical history in Rochester and Upstate New York.
Rare materials must be used in the History of Medicine reading room by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, contact Miner_HistMed@URMC.Rochester.edu. For general inquiries, contact us.
The rare book and manuscript collections are supported by reference and circulating collections on the history of medicine and the biomedical sciences. These resources are available on the Lower Level Stacks. Currently, University of Rochester and URSMD students, staff, and faculty can request circulating materials via DiscoverUR, the library catalog. Unaffiliated visitors to Miner Library may also browse and use these materials within the library during open hours.
The comprehensive guide to all the resources in the History of Medicine Section at Miner Library are found in the pages of the Rare Book and Manuscripts Section.
